Torindo’s ISO 17100-certified, high-quality translation services
A portion of Torindo’s translation services has acquired ISO 17100 certification, the international standard for translation service quality established in 2015 by the Japanese Standards Association. This certification is not simply based on an evaluation of the quality of translations, but specifies requirements for determining whether a company has a proper framework in place to provide excellent translations.
In acquiring the ISO 17100 certification, our translators and proofreaders were appraised based on their highly specialized skills, relevant qualifications, and extensive practical experience. Our management framework for various work processes was also evaluated. In Japan where there are thousands of translation companies across the country, only 55 companies have acquired ISO 17100 certification (as of September 2025).

Torindo’s objective in acquiring ISO 17100 certification
Since Torindo’s founding in 1978, we have provided translations in a wide range of fields, including industrial machinery, precision instruments, and medical equipment, for documentation such as instruction manuals and technical documents. With our extensive specialized knowledge and proven track record, we received the official ISO 17100 certification in 2016. Criteria for acquiring ISO 17100 certification
Translators and proofreaders must fulfill the following two requirements:
[1] They must be competent in six areas
- Translation skills and the ability to deal with problems when they arise
- Fluency in languages and knowledge of translation rules
- Ability to investigate, consolidate, and process linguistic and specialized knowledge
- Ability to understand the source and target languages and their cultures
- Technical skills in using IT tools for translation/proofreading work
- Ability to understand the source content and reproduce this content in the target language using appropriate terms and expressions
[2] They must submit proof of qualifications or practical experience (at least one of the following)
- A recognized graduate qualification in translation from an institution of higher education
- A recognized graduate qualification in any other field from an institution of higher education plus at least two years of full-time professional experience in translating
- At least five years of full-time professional experience in translating
In addition to requirements regarding the above translation skills and qualifications, the strict ISO evaluation process also requires us to fulfill criteria regarding the entire process from the pre-translation client inquiry and quotation stages through to the provision of after-sales service.
