What is “post-editing”?
Post-editing is also known as “MTPE” (Machine Translation Post-Editing). It is the process in which a translator or post-editor checks machine translations and corrects any mistranslations, unnatural expressions, and inconsistencies in style, as necessary.
By combining machine translation with post-editing, we can offer translations at a lower cost than conventional human translation while maintaining high quality by leveraging the speed of machine translation and having a translator or post-editor check and correct the technical terms and context.

Torindo has established our own guidelines and workflow based on the international standard ISO 18587 for post-editing (MTPE).
Combining the best-suited automatic translation engine for the job with quality checks that make use of AI, we turn “complete but somewhat unnatural” machine translations into reliable, high-quality translations.
Step 1: Analysis
- Based on the details of the client’s request, such as the document type, target audience, and language to be translated, we analyze the compatibility of the project with automatic translation engines. We also decide the level of quality to apply (Light/Full).
- We check if there are any translations that we can reuse, such as from past documents and existing translation data.
- If necessary, we prepare translation memories and glossaries, and create a checklist based on the level of quality agreed upon by the client.
Step 2: Quotation
- Based on the client’s requirements and the results of our analysis, we propose the best-suited AI translation flow and give a quotation.
Step 3: Automatic translation
- Automatic translation is carried out.
- Depending on the project, we may be able to reduce costs and ensure consistency with past translations by reusing existing translations registered to translation memories and glossaries.
Step 4: Post-editing
- A professional translator carries out post-editing (correction of automatic translations) according to the specified quality level (Light/Full).
Step 5: AI checks
- We carry out third-party checks in accordance with the required quality level by using our proprietary AI check tool (Torindo’s AI-DOQ) and implementing additional human quality checks.
Step 6: Delivery/Feedback
- We deliver the completed translated files to the client.
- We also perform in-house evaluations and reviews of each project.
